Alcohol causes enormous problems in our society. It is estimated that more than a quarter of the adult population in England have an ‚“alcohol use disorder,” and that the costs of alcohol-related harm add up to £20 billion a year. But, in contrast with previous eras, the contemporary church says almost nothing about this issue. After exploring the facts and setting out a biblical perspective, this study looks at what in practice we can do‚ and shows that a convincing response must move beyond moralism to serious engagement with all aspects of this problem.
