Most studies in this area focus on the experience of singleness and the pastoral consequences. But this study focuses on the theological significance of singleness and its consequent place in the life of God’s people. Starting with creation and covenant in the Old Testament, it explores the way those who are single typify the pattern of growth for God’s people under the new covenant, through mission and discipleship rather than procreation-and as such model life in Christ.
