Church attendance appears to be in decline. But little attention has been focussed on changing patterns and total numbers attending.A thorough survey in one deanery discovered much wider contact with the community than had been realised and identified a key group in the church that was often missed.With guidance on how to undertake a similar exercise, this study is a wake-up call to those responsible for planning pastoral strategy.
