Brian and his wife Bobbie started Hillsong Church in 1983 in what was then a school hall in Baulkham Hills, Sydney. It is now considered the largest church in Australia, growing from just 45 people initially to more than 21,000 people who now attend on any given weekend.
The church incorporates three major worship centres (Baulkham Hills, Waterloo and Macarthur), a city-wide network of connect groups, and extension services across the city (including a range of culturally specific services). In addition, Hillsong is growing congregations in London, Kiev, Paris, and Cape Town.
Brian believes a key mandate of the Church and individual Christians is to help others and make a real difference in our communities. To this end, Hillsong Church has supported many community endeavours including: disaster relief (Tsunami, Sudan and New Orleans); drug and alcohol rehabilitation; prevention and support in the area of sexual abuse; working with the marginalised and disenfranchised through education and training; helping the homeless; emergency relief; and youth and children's programs.
