Church planting was hailed in the 1980s and 1990s as a significant way forward for church growth, and many denominations made commitments to plant new churches. But the targets set were unrealistic, and planting was harder than many had anticipated.
What can be learnt from this, and what is the way forward? This study looks carefully at the encouragements as well as hard lessons, and the future shape of a practice that must continue to be an indispensable missionary strategy for the churches.
