Wycliffe risked his life translating the Bible for the first time into English. Although given protection - by John of Gaunt and the Queen Mother - from the Church who proclaimed his work illegal, he was ousted from his teaching post at Oxford and barred from the university libraries. Exiled to his parish of Lutterworth, he saw the work completed before his death in 1384.

This award-winning film gives valuable insight into the 14th century church, and begins the extraordinary story of how the Bible came to England in the language of the people.

A Grenville/Gateway production, shown on Channel Four Television, directed by Tony Tew.

Running time: 75 minutes
