Cynicism is a cancer which eats away at faith. It is widespread in the church, operating at a range of levels—personal, institutional and corporate. Yet without it, there is a danger that faith remains naïve. This illuminating study looks at the origins of cynicism as a philosophical movement, its possible connections with the ministry of Jesus, and its contemporary expression. And most importantly it looks at how we can hold on to the value of the questions cynicism asks, whilst continuing in the life of faith.
